DIRECTIONS

 

Valhalla Mountain Touring
Bonanza Road
Hills, BC

VMT is situated near the small community of Hills, BC which lies between Nakusp and New Denver on Highway 6.

If coming from the north, pass through Nakusp and drive 30km south-east on Hwy 6 (towards New Denver, NOT towards Faquier) before turning right onto Bonanza Road.

If coming from the south, pass through New Denver and drive 13km north on Hwy 6 before turning left onto Bonanza Road.

Continue along Bonanza Road for 1km until you reach the bridge over Bonanza Creek. Drive over the bridge, then make a right turn onto Shannon Creek FSR, pull your vehicle to the side of the road on the right and wait to be greeted by VMT staff.

WINTER
VMT staff will meet you at the bottom of the FSR at 10:30 AM for full week trips (please do not arrive early). You’ll park your vehicle here and transfer into a snowcat for the 1 hour snowy ride up to the lodge. Wear clothing and footwear appropriate for standing outside in winter temperatures while we sign waivers, load and unload the snowcat. If you are joining us for a half week trip, please refer to your trip itinerary for arrival times, some half-week trips begin in the evening.

SUMMER
VMT staff will meet you at the bottom of the FSR at 2:00 PM and lead you on the 16 km drive up to FSR to VMT lodge.

Unfortunately, there are no public transit options which reach VMT. If you are flying, you will need to rent a car to get here.

Before departure, please check drivebc.ca for current road conditions - especially if driving through Rogers Pass (from Calgary).

The Kootenays are a pretty magical region, not just for their incredible beauty, but for the strength of the local culture. If you’re visiting VMT from afar, why not extend your trip by a few days and see what else is on offer?
